Installation is the same as a normal Cruiser install but now you will need to open up the “style.css”
file in the cruiser directory and change this line:

@import "k2.css";

You will need to change this line to the K2 style sheet you are currently using,
depending on your specific set up it would be something like

@import "k2/styles/yourstylesheet.css";

If you are flying the default K2 style sheet you can simply use this:

@import "k2/style.css";

I have included the default K2 style sheet in this release of Cruiser so it will work
right out of the box. If you do not wish to import your own K2 style sheet Cruiser will
still work.

This should get all the K2 users heading in the right direction. Obviously if you have a heavily
modified K2 install this probably won’t work, but if you know enough to mod K2 then you should be
able to mess with the Cruiser style sheet to match your specific theme.

• Download and unzip the Cruiser release package.
• Open the file cruiser_config.php located in the config directory
• Edit the following lines:

Now Upload the Cruiser directory to your website, and visit your gallery!
The basic gallery should be up and running. To use the search by name function you will need to
run the install.php script located in the Cruiser directory by visiting;

http://www.yoururl.com/pathtocruiser/install.php

You should see a message saying that the database tables have been installed. If you do not
see this message check to make sure your database settings in cruiser_config.php
are correct.

If you successfully installed the database tables you NEED to DELETE
the install.php file from your installation! This script is setup to delete any existing tables in the database before creating them, so if you do not delete this script, someone could potentially overwrite your tables.

I have yet to include any type of authorization into the admin section of Cruiser, so for the time being I would rename the admin directory to something random, that you can remember. Basically anyone that finds this directory will be able to add names and photo relationships, and that is it. If you wish to give people this link so they can add their own names to photos then go ahead. The edit name, and delete name functions do not work yet.

Administration:

Go to the Cruiser Gallery Administration by pointing your browser to the admin directory or your renamed admin directory. You will see a login form, just click submit as this form won’t do anything yet. Now that you are in the admin section click on “Name Admin” to add names and add names to photos.

Thats it! This has taken me a crazy amount of time, because I am not an expert when it comes to this stuff so feel free to donate and help a brother out!

How Does Cruiser Work?

This gallery script utilizes the php class phpflickr, to make calls to flickr using flickr’s API, to build the gallery. While the gallery is built and displayed locally, all of the photos are still hosted at flickr.com, which frees up mass amounts of space on your hosting account. Using phpflickr’s built in caching function, all of the flickr calls are cached locally speeding up page loads, and also removing the requirement for flickr to be up and running in order to browse your photos.

Why?

I came across Ashutosh’s gallery over at askthefool.com and really liked his setup, and the fact that the photos are still hosted on flickr servers. After checking out the flickr API and what is offered, I decided on phpflickr written and maintained by Dan Coulter.

Requirements

All that is required for phpflickr to work (besides php, and a flickr account) is a flickr API key. You can get one here http://www.flickr.com/services/api/key.gne This key is simply to help flickr keep track of applications accessing their servers and photos.
